TUNNELS
Tunnels is a huge body of work including paintings and drawings from a period when Johnson lived on Havelock Walk, in South London. Havelock Walk was a mews of live/work warehouses where a community of artists and makers opened their studios up twice a year. It was a really productive time creatively for Johnson and was also the time she had her children.
In this series Johnson explored and developed her understanding of paint, surface and abstract language. The recurring motif of the tunnel represents movement, travel and the journey we are all on in our lives which are continued themes in Johnson’s works to date.
